Before a friend mentioned to him that there was an opening at Eaglestone, most of Miguel Perez’s work experience was in restaurants. But being mechanically inclined by nature made Miguel jump at the chance to work with state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. Now, twelve years later, Miguel is in charge of the Laser and Waterjet Department, overseeing the cutting of sheet metal on our Mazak laser cutter and Flow waterjet – which easily cuts through inches of steel.
In his current role, he is responsible for making sure all the equipment in the department is operational and in good working condition, checking job orders from headquarters to ensure they are ready for workers on the shop floor and ordering all the raw materials for each project. He also keeps a close eye on quality control during the running of the parts.
Eye for Design
Ever since he arrived, Miguel has been curious about the conveyor design process. He carefully studies every print Eaglestone engineers send his way. This has taught him so much that he can make changes to designs for some parts right on the spot if needed. He also finds that watching AutoCAD® tutorials on YouTube is a great way to learn more about the design process.
Miguel and his team work hard, but the atmosphere in the department is easy and relaxed. Everyone knows their job and goes about it with quiet efficiency. Well, maybe not so quiet. It’s a fab shop, after all.
Outside the Shop
With four children ranging from seven years all the way down to two months, Miguel doesn’t have a lot of time for hobbies at the moment. He does, however, manage to find the time to play pickup soccer games on the weekends, which he describes as very competitive. He also enjoyed watching Mexico in the 2018 World Cup, celebrating a big win against defending champs, Germany. Though they were ultimately defeated by Brazil, ending their chance to advance any further in Russia.
His family of six also enjoys walking through the streets of Chicago and Naperville and enjoying the sights and sounds of summertime.
